Mary Dean Gibbs Norcross passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday January the 10th, 2024 at the age of 91. She was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on October 17, 1932. She was the third child and the oldest daughter of Mary and Dean Gibbs. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Van Gibbs, Ray Gibbs, and Johnny Gibbs, and sisters, Barbara Hardy and Brenda Balsinger. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Daniel Griffen Norcross, her sisters, Joanne Vest (Wayne) and Linda White (Eddie), her brother, Richard Gibbs (Judi) along with many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
She was a graduate of Fair Park High School. She worked at HL Greens department store saving money to buy dishes and to set up housekeeping for when she and Danny would marry after they graduated. She worked for many years at Beall Ladymon where everyone knew and loved Mary. She was an excellent seamstress, an avid cook, and a very good golfer. She had four holes in one. Family members enjoyed many meals at their house, particularly eating with Uncle Danny and Aunt Mary after church. She loved working with her ceramics, gardening and painting. Most family members have some of her ceramic pieces in their homes. She embraced technology with her computerized embroidery machines, making many personalized gifts. She was active in numerous garden clubs.
She was a member at Lakeshore Baptist Church and later Western Hills Baptist Church. When she and Danny built a house and moved to South Shreveport, she became a member of Woodridge Baptist Church. Each Sunday members enjoyed getting their hug from Mary as she passed out bulletins. She and Danny enjoyed trips with friends and her sister Joanne and husband Wayne. They played golf together at many courses throughout Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas, and Florida. She enjoyed helping Danny with his many stained glass creations including windows in their new house.
Funeral services will be held at Centuries Memorial on Mansfield Road At 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 13 with visitation preceding the service beginning at 1:00 PM. Reverend Mike Hawkins will officiate the ceremony. The family would like to thank April Foster and Gentiva Health Services Hospice for the loving care they gave to Mary.
