Services celebrating the life of Margaret May Pretzer Griese, 84, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 27, 2011 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 4175 Lakeshore Dr. in Shreveport. Officiating will be Pastor George Schaetzle. Interment will follow at Centuries Memorial Park. Visitation will be at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Rd in Shreveport, from 3:00 to 5:00pm on Saturday, November 26, 2011.
Margaret was born June 19, 1927, in Saginaw, MI to John and Anna Pretzer. She married Herman R. Griese in Saginaw in 1949. They traveled to Texas, California, Oklahoma, and Alabama due to his Air Force career before settling in Shreveport in 1961. She was a homemaker and loving mother, worked with Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, and was an active member of St Paul Lutheran Church. She also was an EEG technologist and served as editor of the EEG society publication “Delta Recorder” before retiring from LSU hospital. For the last four years, Margaret has lived in West Monroe, LA.
She was preceded in death by both parents; Herman, her husband of 40 years; brother, Andy Anderson; sister, Rae Janicke; and daughter, Janet Hughes.
She is survived by three daughters: Linda Anderson, Margaret Parker, Ann Brandl (John); and three sons: Herman John Griese (Linda), Frederick Griese (Amy), and Carl Griese (Maurenne); and eighteen grandchildren: Melissa Hayes, Christopher Anderson, Katlyn Heck, Lauren Larson, Dr. Stephanie Griese, 1st Lt. Nicholas Griese, Amelia and Andrew Griese, Katherine Parker, Meg, Matthew, and Michael Brandl, Virginia, Benjamin, Christina, and Herman Austin Griese, and Thomas and Grace Hughes. As dear as her own children are Paul Hughes and Vivian Griese. Her sisters-in-law are Jessie Oswald and Jean Russell.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church; the Salvation Army; or Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana, 2307 Texas, Shreveport, 71103.
