Lucille M. Sims, 100, passed away on July 21, 2014 in Tyler, Texas where she had resided for a brief time. Prior to moving to Tyler, she had moved from her home in Lake Geneva, WI in 1936 with her husband and son to Louisiana, eventually settling in Shreveport where she lived until 2013.
Mrs. Sims was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Anna Bashaw, two brothers, Gordon and Tom, her sister, Mildred, and her husband, Samuel Edward (S. E.) Sims.
Left to treasure the memories of their Godly mother, are her son, Stanley (wife Patty) Sims, daughter, Betty Rose (husband Frank Gillespie), daughter, Sharon Sims, and son James Y. “Jimmy” Sims. Mrs. Sims also leaves behind six grandchildren, Susan Bradley (husband Shawn) and Robert Sims (wife Trenda) of Tyler, Texas; Christopher Rose (wife Kristi) of Lewisville, Texas and Gary Rose of Lantana, Texas; Jonathan Sims of Dallas, Texas and Cindy Schexnider of Chicago, Illinois; and five great-grandchildren, Gabriel and Kira Schexnider, Corbin and Makayla Rose, and Jackson Sims. She is also survived by her beloved nieces and nephews and a host of close friends.
Mrs. Sims was a charter member of Westview Christian Church where she faithfully served as a Sunday School teacher and worked in the nursery for many years. Mrs. Sims was a Christian witness to many people throughout her life, in word and action. She loved to read the Bible and read it over many times. Her favorite scripture was Psalms 23.
The service for Mrs. Sims will be conducted by Pastor J. Gary Boswell, who was her Minister, but also one of the many children taught the love of Jesus Christ by Mrs. Sims in Sunday School. The pallbearers are Chris Rose, Gary Rose, John Sims, Robert Sims, Shawn Bradley, and Brant Rose. The honorary pallbearers are E.R. “Ray” Head and Calvin J. Hotard.
Visitation will be at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road on Saturday, July 26, 2014 from 12 pm-2 pm, followed by the service at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in memory of Lucille Sims be made to the American Heart Association at www.heart.org or Westview Christian Church, Shreveport, Louisiana.
