“Pappaw-Uncle Harold”
Shreveport, LA- Celebration of Life Services for Louis Harold Coon will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 9, 2012 at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Sunday, July 8, 2012 from the hours of 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Centuries. Officiating the services will be Brothers Wayne Fussell, Greg Gander and Bobby Cunningham, Ministers of the Church of Christ. Mr. Coon was a member of the Church of Christ for over 60 years, attending Midway Church of Christ at his death. Jesus was his greatest love.
Mr. Coon was born on December 10, 1931 and passed away on July 4, 2012. He is preceded in death by his parents, Noah Webster Coon and Mildred Derotha Anders Coon; his first wife of nearly 50 years, Alice Dean Coon, two brothers, Rex Coon and Roy Coon, and daughter-in-law Marnelle Coon.
He is survived by his wife, Patsye Parker-Coon; one son, Randal Coon; one daughter, Donna Darlene Coon Gander and husband Greg; step-sons, Jerry Parker and Jimmy Parker; step-daughter, Georgia Parker Hilton; one sister, India Eisenbach; one brother, John S. Coon, Sr.; grandsons, Jared Coon and Daniel Gander; granddaughters, Holli Bowman and husband Adam; Carly Post and husband Craig and Julia Coon. He was also very blessed to be survived by many extended family members, including the family members of both his wives’, whom he loved as his own blood relatives. His brothers and sisters in Christ were and are precious to him.
He worked with the U.S. Postal service for nearly 40 years. He had a fantastic memory, almost to the very end. He would see people and remember their addresses and families, many years after his retirement. He was the epitome of the old fashioned, friendly postman. After his day at work, he would take about an hour off and then go to his evening job, at C&C Grocery for about 20 years, where he also met many friends. He amazed us! Sometimes it seemed he knew everybody in Shreveport. After he retired he worked for 10 years in his son’s law firm, doing whatever needed to be done. His frequent trips to the courthouse even had the clerk’s calling him affectionately, “Pappaw.”
He was a good, kind, compassionate, Christian, family man. He will be greatly missed by all.
Pallbearers will be Jared Coon, Daniel Gander, Adam Bowman, Craig Post, Matthew Phiffer and Sam Lipsey.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Midway Church of Christ, 3200 Bert Kouns, Shreveport, La., or the National Arbor Society.
