Our beloved mother left this earth Monday, August 19, 2024—and was immediately in the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Her Biblical Life Verse is Philippians 4:19: “My God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”
The Celebration of Life will be at Centuries Memorial, 8801 Mansfield Rd., Shreveport, LA, on Sunday, September 1 at 2:00 pm. The Interment will be immediately following the service in Centuries Memorial Park.
Lou was born January 2, 1925, in Shreveport, Louisiana. She grew up in a Christian home with seven siblings, and with more love than money. They moved several times in those days to seek better opportunities for her dad’s employment.
Lou was an avid reader. She also loved teaching Girls Auxiliary and Sunbeams, as well as participating in the Women’s Missionary Union at both Lakeshore Baptist and Brookwood Baptist churches in Shreveport. She was a sponge for learning new words and ideas which she satiated when she went back to school as an adult student at LSUS and BPCC.
She also loved the arts. Her parents and siblings were involved in the symphony and traveling musical shows as well as artistic endeavors. With no formal training as a young girl, she found that the little paper doll dresses she drew to place on magazine doll cut-outs, as well as her sketches of fashion apparel, stoked the fires of desire to learn oil painting.
Lou joined the Shreveport Art Club and thoroughly enjoyed lessons from visiting artists as well as her fellow members. Lou won several awards at art shows through the years, well-deserving of each one. Had she not developed Macular Degeneration this last decade, we are certain she would be painting still!
Everyone loved Lou because she looked outward at each person with a smile on her face and an obvious interest in those she met. One rarely saw her head down in despair, though there was deep suffering and loss as a little child and as an adult. Beyond that, most comments concerning her were repetitious regarding her generous spirit, positive attitude, compassion, sense of humor, sassy style, artistic talent, lover of life…
Most importantly, she loved Christ and loved to share Him with others … she took the Great Commission seriously. Her husband and her four children had no doubts about her great faith. Of course, serving her family always came in as a close second! She lived in the world of superlatives: her last gift, meal, book, movie, etc. was always “the best I’ve ever had!”
Lou is survived by her daughters, Bonnie Walker and husband, David Walker, Susan Butler and husband, C.J. Butler, and her son, David Hanson. She loved her grands with all of her heart: grandsons, Jason Taylor (Stephenie), Bart Butler (Brady) and Alex Hanson, and granddaughters, Ashlea Sharp (Bob), Taryn Taylor, Brittany Darby, Natalie Hanson and Vanessa Dotie. More blessings came as great grandchildren were born including Chandler, Jaden, Benjamin, Carson, Beckett, Antonio, Tiyana, O’Ryann, Novah, Devyn, Makenzlee, Jacob and Tanner.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Weldon M. Pettit and Blanche Barrow Pettit, and all seven siblings: Buz, Hugh, Bonnie, Mae, Norma Christina, Sonny and Sydney. In addition, her husband, David C. Hanson, her daughter, Lori H. Taylor, her son-in-law Michael Taylor and mother of Vanessa, Brittany and Natalie, Cheryl Miller, preceded her to heaven.
