Lois Evelyn Sloan Palmer: Born in Hermitage, Arkansas on September 7, 1924 to B.F. and Lena Sloan; deceased in Denton, TX on August 16, 2010.
Lois Palmer went to be with Christ at 85 years of age after a long, happy life and a short illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Palmer, and her daughter, Dr. Barbara Lynn Palmer. She is survived by her sister, Ara Nora Chavis of Pine Bluff, AR; sons Howard N. Palmer, Jr and his wife Beth, of Denton, TX; Leland E. Palmer and his wife Suzanne of Pollock, LA; and grandson, Howard N. Palmer, III, also of Denton. Lois was a pioneer in radio broadcasting, being the first female newscaster in Arkansas on KOTN radio. She worked as a secretary at EXXON in Shreveport, LA, drove school buses for Caddo Parish School Board in Louisiana until she retired, and held various professional secretarial positions at businesses and churches, and was a television ministry control booth operator for First Baptist Church in Shreveport, LA. She was a true servant of Christ and remained active in the prayer life of her church in Shreveport, LA. Lois was an avid supporter of the Natchez Children's Home in Natchez, MS. Between 2002 and 2006, she became a missionary, accompanying her daughter, Dr. Lynn Palmer, on medical and missionary trips to orphanages in Lima, Peru. The family would like to thank the staffs at Autumn Oaks Assisted Living and American Hospice for their care and compassion during her illness. Funeral Services will be held at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home in Shreveport, LA at 10 AM on the 19th, before burial in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Visitation will be Wednesday evening between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Natchez Children's Home Services, at www.natchezchildresnhome.org.
