Leesa was a housewife for most of her life. She was one who loved family and had a great affection for animals. Having suffered for several years with a debilitating sickness, she is now free of suffering and pain and is ready to enter into the holy glorious presence of our Lord Jesus Christ in His Holy Kingdom. Her life can be an example for all of us that we can be patient and trusting in God's love even in the greatest pain and suffering. When the doctors gave her two days to live five years ago, it was a difficult pill to swallow, but she trusted in the Lord and He gave her another 5 years! She recognized God's work in her life and we thank God and praise Him for the love that was manifested in the way that she dealt with the adversities that she had to encounter.
Leesa was preceded in death by her parents, James A. Mathews and Betty Jean Mathews; brother, Mark Edward Mathews and her daughter, Beth Crosby Mercer.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Neil Danny Burgess; sons, Joey Burgess and James Crosby; daughter, Christy Crosby; brothers, Fr. Ron Mathews of Hartley, Texas, Richard Mathews (Vickie), Michael Mathews (Kimberly), all of Shreveport, Louisiana. She is also survived by grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
