Laverne, as she was affectionately known, was born June 30, 1944 in Galveston, Texas to Gertrude Laverne Rice-Vernon and Ernest Leon Vernon. She was married to her lifelong soulmate, William R. Carpenter Sr. in 1958 and together raised two sons, Johnny and William in Shreveport, Louisiana. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Laverne especially loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She worked diligently as an accountant and bookkeeper at Custom Printed Products for many years until she retired.
Laverne loved spending time with her family, cooking and baking delicious meals and desserts. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed sewing and crocheting beautiful works of art. She was an avid dog lover and cared deeply for her pets. She loved shopping for bargains with her granddaughter, sometimes spending hours in Sam's club together. She also enjoyed celebrating holidays and finding special gifts for her loved ones. One of her greatest joys in life was delighting in her great grandson's Jacob and Blake.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, William R. Carpenter Jr. and his wife Sandy; granddaughter, Amanda Carpenter Morgan and her husband Chad; great grandsons, Jacob Carpenter, and Blake Morgan and daughter-in-law, Diane Carpenter.
