Mr. Kunzman, 93, passed away peacefully in his sleep at Montclair Park on April 18, 2024. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. with a graveside service under the pavilion at Centuries Memorial Park. Officiating will be Rev. Joe Bob Alexander. Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
Mr. Kunzman was a lifelong resident of Shreveport, Louisiana. He was born at home, which was located on Ardmore Street. He was a member of Brookwood Baptist Church. Ken was a loving, quiet, and supportive man to his wife and four daughters, which all had very close relationships with him. He was always quick with a corny joke and told us he loved us "4". He was the perfect "girl" daddy. He was generous to a fault, always giving his things away.
He and his wife, Doris Ann, enjoyed a very special union, which lasted a month shy of 62 years. He lived his life as a Godly example to his family and all who came in contact with him. He wanted everyone to know his Jesus.
Ken was a graduate of C. E. Byrd High School, where he and Doris Ann met. He irritated her daily by pulling her ponytail during class. He graduated with a degree in Physics from Centenary College in 1959 after serving in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was discharged with honors.
Ken and Doris Ann were married on January 12, 1957 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Afterward they lived a short time in Shreveport before heading off to New Jersey, where he worked for Bell Labs on the Nike Hercules missile system. It was a surface-to-air missile used by US and NATO forces for air defense. From there they moved to Winston Salem where he worked on various environmental testing projects including the Nike-Zeus transponder and a Navy project that included three missiles President Kennedy pointed at Cuba causing Russia to back off. From there the family was moved to New Orleans where Ken worked for Boeing. After leaving Boeing, the family moved to Dallas and worked at Ling-Temco-Vought on the modular maneuvering backpack for the astronauts. In 1965, Ken finally was able to make it back to Shreveport to work for Western Electric opening the plant here. He designed and purchased all the equipment for the chemical, wet and dry labs. He designed and built 283 computers while working for Western Electric. He retired from the plant in 1988 and began designing computer boards and building computers on his own.
Ken will be greatly missed by all who knew him, especially his four daughters. We know he is in Heaven now rejoicing at the feet of Jesus with his precious wife.
Mr. Kunzman was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Doris Ann Hawley Kunzman; parents, John William and Thelma Kunzman, Sr.; his brother, John William Kunzman, Jr. He is survived by his four daughters, Judi Loe (Bruce), Heather Myers (Harrell), Maribeth Howard (Johnny) and Sara Terry (Wallace, III); eleven grandchildren, Tracey Trickett (Mike), Bruce Loe, III (Leslie), Elizabeth Cowart (Dakota), Sara Whetstone (Luke), Brian Myers (Brittany), Evan Myers, Caleb Myers, Anna Myers, Jessica Murry (Matt), Wallace Terry, IV (Jessica) and Laura Beckworth; twelve great-grandchildren, Andrew Blaylock, Abby Trickett, Jake Trickett, Oliver Loe, Oakley Loe, Mattilyn Cowart, Holden Cowart,Harper Whetstone, Harrison Whetstone, Wallace "Quinn" Terry, V, Cash Terry, and Ellie Kate Terry; one great-great- grandson, Andrew "Andy" Blaylock, Jr.; three nephews, Jeff Hawley (Pam), David Hawley, Eugene "Happy" Hawley,III; and numerous friends.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Montclair Park, especially Ms. Patricia, for all the loving care they
provided Ken during his final days there.
