Karen Kay Garrett passed away suddenly last Thursday. She is survived by her mother, Norma Garrett, and her siblings Fred Garrett (Julie), Bill Garrett (Debbie), Brett Wright (Mai), Kristen Spahn, Jennifer Jones, and Scott Wright (Christine). She was preceded in death by her dad, Jerry Garrett, her father, Fred Wright, and her brother, Dane Wright.
Karen graduated from Southwood High School in 1979 and attended Louisiana Tech where she majored in marketing.
Karen made friendships for life. She kept in touch with her childhood, school, and college friends in addition to those she met later in life. She had an especially close relationship with and relished the role of “cool aunt” to her nieces: Ambree Schultz (Matt), Rachel Hilton (Reed), Michele Garrett, Caitlin Garrett (fiancé Brandon), and Lauren Garrett.
Karen was a dog lover. She had many dogs in her life, and they were all her ‘babies’. She loved her dogs like family.
Music was a big part of her life. She liked the competition of “name that band” for songs on the radio (primarily classic rock). She enjoyed going to concerts.
Karen was an avid puzzler who did many word puzzles daily to keep her mind sharp. Friends often commented on her prodigious memory.
Karen was a breast cancer survivor. Please donate to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
Visitation will be at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Rd., Shreveport, LA 71108 on Friday, September 15th from 5-7 PM.
