Joseph Andrew Sugg Sr., age 67, of Shreveport, Louisiana passed away on Tuesday, November 4, 2020. Joseph or “Joe” as he preferred to be called was born to Council Raymond Sugg, Jr., and Dora Emily Waters in Portsmouth, Virginia.
A viewing for Joe will be held Friday, November 6, 2020 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Rd, Shreveport, Louisiana 71108. A funeral service will occur Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 2:00 PM. Internment will take place at Centuries Memorial Park.
Joe went to Woodrow Wilson High School in Portsmouth, VA. He held a few jobs as a teenager. One of his early jobs was working at Christian Broadcasting Network. Later, this opened opportunities at the local CBN radio station where his sales experience began allowing him to thrive. Turned out he was a great salesman. He had the gift of gab!! As the years went on, Joe received favor and eventually retired as Television and Telecommunications Executive.
Joe was a man of great diligence in his work and taking care of his wife, Deb and his two children, Joseph Andrew Sugg II and Christopher Michael Sugg. Joe had a strong faith in God and his belief in God’s Son, Jesus Christ, and The Holy Spirit.
Joe met Deb Anton and they became high school sweethearts. They married in 1974. On February 19, 2020, Joe and Deb celebrated forty-six years of marriage. They were best friends, and their love for each other never wavered. God became the center of their life and the cornerstone of their foundation.
Joe enjoyed deer hunting. He always told the story of a morning he went hunting and stopped to pray with his children for safety to make sure they saw deer. All day long they saw nothing until he drove back into the driveway of our house and there were deer laying in our backyard. He immediately laughed and saw the sense of humor of God. The answer may not always be what we think, but God ALWAYS hears our prayers.
Joe was a soldier, a warrior with great faith in God. One of many scriptures was, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Lean not on your own understanding. Acknowledge Him in all your ways and He will direct your path.” His legacy will always be as a warrior that knew who he was in Christ and stood strong in faith to his final breath.
Left to cherish Joe’s memory his wife, Deb Sugg; sons Joe Sugg II (Celia) and Christopher Sugg (Renee); sisters Sylvia Syromi and Ruth Casey; grandchildren Sadie Kate Sugg, Bria Tate Sugg, Zachary Wyatt Sugg and Samantha Emmalynn Sugg. Joe is also survived by numerous other family members and friends.
