Joseph Wayne Johnson was born on September 5, 1956 to the late Joseph and Orelia Johnson in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was the fourth child of six children. He received Christ at an early age at the Saint Rest Baptist Church where he was an active member of the choir.
In 1974 he graduated from Booker T Washington High School. He later followed in his fathers’ footsteps and joined Shreveport Police Department in 1982. In 1990 he found his true calling when he started working for the Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office.
When Joseph was not working and he spent most of his free time fishing and hunting, which were his favorite hobbies. On April 4, 1999 Joseph married his soul mate, his love, Shirley Ford of Houston, Texas. Although they had no children together, they lovingly combined their family as one which made up 10 children.
Joseph never met a stranger; he was a people person that would socialize with anyone. He was never too busy to give anyone a helping hand.
On August 11, 2020 Joseph Wayne Johnson transitioned from his earthly life to receive his eternal life’s reward.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Zandra J Royster; niece, Olivia’ C Johnson; and nephews, Kyler Ealy and Bryce Gaston.
Left to cherish Joseph’s memories are his loving wife of 21 years, Shirley Johnson; children: Lennie Johnson, Jazmyn Hill, Tierra Jackson, Thomas Ford, Anthony Griffin, Pastor James Demery (Tamara), Shamita Henderson (Larry), Rory Nelor (Natasha), Chanell Sykes(Dother), and Marco Nelor; sisters: Donna McLemore, Evelyn Johnson, and Brenda Gaston; brother, Donald Johnson and his twin brother, James Johnson, fourteen grandchildren, aunts, Georgia Jaminson, Veronica Lyles, Pearlie LaCour, Katherine Johnson-James, Josephine Johnson; uncles, James Johnson (Mary), Jack Johnson and Clydell Johnson; six nieces, ten nephews, numerous great nieces and nephews, cousins, numerous friends and acquaintances
Visitation for Joe will be held from 4:00pm-8:00pm on Monday August 17, at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana. A funeral service for Joe will be held on Tuesday August 18, at 11:00am at St. Rest Baptist Church, 1664 Garden Street, Shreveport, Louisiana. The family will also receive friends one hour prior to service time at St. Rest Baptist Church. Interment will take place at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery. Pastor Lonnie Hamilton will be officiating.
