Services to honor the life of Joseph “Freddie” Crooks, 69, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 20, 2010, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Msgr. Earl V. Provenza officiating. Interment will follow in Centuries Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday evening between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home with a vigil to follow at 6:00 p.m.
Freddie was born October 8, 1940, in Zwolle, LA to Walter P. Crooks and Elva V. LaRoux. He passed away Wednesday, September 15, 2010, at his home from esophageal cancer. Freddie was a 1958 graduate of Zwolle High School and a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Mary of the Pines Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Army from 1960 until 1966 as Army SP4 and later retired from Greyhound-Trailways Bus Lines after 39 years of faithful employment.
Freddie was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia G. Crooks; son, Marc Joseph Crooks; and two brothers, Ray and Harold Crooks. He is survived by his son, John Crooks and wife, Jan of Zwolle, LA; daughters, Dianne Sullivan and husband, Steve of Benton, LA, Truly McGuire and husband, Rich of Carlsbad, CA, and Marty Holbrook of Shreveport, LA; grandchildren, Dean, Natalie, and Isaac Sullivan, Julia, Jessica, and Joshua Crooks, Richard and Emily McGuire, and Brendan, Brandon, and Patricia Holbrook; brothers, Charles, Ludwig, and Robert Crooks; sisters, Cleo Crooks, Ella Garcie, Joyce Ann Dew, and Linda Crooks; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Pallbearers will be Mike Crooks, Greg Crooks, Jerry Garcie, Josh Crooks, Terry Walraven, and Lloyd Crooks. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Remedies, Marrell Lopez, Maurice Martinez, and Phillip Parrie.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Mary of the Pines Catholic Church or the American Cancer Society.
