John R. Hawthorne passed away on December 22, following a brief illness. John was a well loved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, minister, and the unofficial adopted father of a countless number of individuals in the North Louisiana area.
Although John retired from the U. S. Army as Master Sergeant and Vietnam Nam veteran, his last twenty years were his best years. It was during this time that he answered the call of God on his life to go into the hospitals and share the love of Jesus with those whose path he crossed. During the last days on earth, he continued to share the love of Jesus to all those who were working to heal his body.
Mr. Hawthorne is survived by his wife of 59 years, Kathleen (Kay) Hayes Hawthorne and his children, Bryan Hawthorne and wife Twyla, Karen Franklin and husband Rick, Patrick Hawthorne and wife Kathy. His grandchildren are Valerie Smith and husband Ben, Stephanie and husband Aaron, Sean Michael Hawthorne and wife Rachel, new great granddaughter Alyssa Hawthorne, Significant Brother-in-law And Sister-in-law Terry Hayes and wife Jerry Ann. Also his little buddy Lucy, the little dog he rescued but insisted Kay forced him to get for her.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Missions, care of Word of Life Center, 4425 Meriwether Road, Shreveport, LA, 71109.
Family would also like to express their gratitude and appreciation for Doctor Zhang, Doctor Hamm, and Doctor Brynn. Also to all the wonderful nurses and staff at Willis Knighton North on 2 West and CCU. Many of you were adopted into the Hawthorne family.
