Joe Paul Maxey was born September 27, 1942 in Many, Louisiana to the late Annie Bell Maxey and Paul Maxey. He honorably served in the United States Army from 1964 to 1968. While serving, he met the love of his life, Bess, who was also serving in the Army. They married in 1967 while they both were stationed in Virginia. Together they shared 57 wonderful years, two beautiful children, four grandchildren, one great grandchild, countless memories and endless laughs. Joe worked as a Telephone worker for over 30 years before retiring from AT&T.
Joe never met a stranger and was a friend to everyone he met. He liked to play softball and basketball. He also enjoyed hunting and being outdoors. He was a simple man who loved his family most of all. You could always find him with a smile on his face. On Thursday, May 30, 2024 Joe passed away surrounded by his family at the age of 81 in Shreveport, Louisiana. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Bessie Couch Maxey; children, Teresa Maxey Kliebert and husband, Sam and Michael Joe Maxey and wife, Kendall; grandchildren, Samuel Kliebert Jr., Mason Briggs, Madison Maxey, and Michael Jacob Maxey; great granddaughter, Nova Briggs; two brothers, Charles Maxey and Bobby Maxey; along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Frances Kay Penton.
A visitation for Joe will be held Monday, June 3, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana 71108, followed by a Celebration of Life at 12:00 PM. He will be laid to rest in Centuries Memorial Park with military honors. Brother Jimmy Price will be officiating his services. Serving as pallbearers will be Sam Kliebert, Samuel Kliebert, Jr., Mason Briggs, Ernie Austin, Jack Stiles, Logan Maxey and Wayne Foster.
