Services for Joe F. Matheny will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 30, at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronnie Joe Webb officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, Nov. 29, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Centuries.
Joe was born July 13, 1932, in Mangham, La., and passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 25. He married the love of his life Betty Whitten Matheny on Jan 7, 1957. He was a manufacturer’s rep for more than 50 years, ending a very successful career, retiring from Action/Lane Industries.
Known to be a snappy dresser, wearing silk pajamas even in the hospital, Joe had a great sense of humor and was loved by all who knew him. Years after retiring, folks in the furniture industry still asked about the man who wore a red raincoat to market.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Martha and Lee Matheny, one brother and one sister.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Betty; children, Terrie Roberts (Jim), Joe Fredrick Matheny (Renee), Suzanne Phillips, Bobby Matheny (Courtney), June Alexander (Ken) and Tonya Fortenberry (Randy); 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Our family will be forever grateful to Travis M., who introduced him to Bill W. and Dr. Bob.
His association with AA and his many friends there brought him and his family many wonderful years of happy memories.
During his retiring years, he took great joy in spending time with his children and grandchildren and traveling with his wife and the Pelican Travelers.
The family would like to thank Dr. Rodney Reeves for extending Joe’s life through the innovative TAVR surgery, the staff at Stat Home Health and Dr. Richard Kamm. They also extend a very special thank you to physician and dear friend Dr. David Abdehou,
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Caddo Council on Alcoholism or Eagle Creek Recovery Center
