Caddo Parish Juvenile Detective Jacob Nolan Bergren, age 36, succumbed to his battle with cancer on January 28, 2020. Jacob was a 9-year member of the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office. Prior to joining CPSO, he served our community through the University Police Department. Jacob was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt and fish! Most weekends, he could be found in either the woods or on the water. Jake would be described by most as “The Life of the Party”. He was always cracking jokes and making people smile. But, his cutting up and laughter could be put aside quickly when it came to his job. Jake was tough – he had to be in order to take down some of the most heinous criminals in our area.
Above his love of the outdoors and his career was the love he had for his family. He was married to his longtime sweetheart, Heather Aaron Bergren of Bossier City, LA. The two share three beautiful children – Landon Jacob (8), Nolynn Elizabeth (4) and Walker Lee (1). His kids would light up when he walked through the door as he somehow always brought a sense of joy and laughter into any room. He was a lover of all sports, especially football and the LSU Tigers and New Orleans Saints. He loved playing sports with his son, Landon, and enjoyed coaching Landon’s Shreveport Dixie baseball team, The Mets. His presence at the ballfield and his coaching will be missed tremendously. He was a husband, father, son, brother, uncle, deputy and one incredible friend. His memory will never be forgotten and will live on in our hearts forever.
Just 25 hours after passing, Jake’s father, Roger Wayne Bergren lost his year-long battle with cancer. Roger is undoubtedly in Heaven with his baby boy where they will spend eternity fishing in Paradise. Jacob is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Oliver and Geraldine Bergren, and maternal grandparents Charles Dunn and Lucy Goforth.
He is survived by his mother, Susan Bergren; wife, Heather Bergren; children, Landon, Nolynn and Walker; brothers Jeremy and Josh Bergren (spouse, Sarah Bergren); mother-in-law, Jennifer Holloway (spouse, Bret Holloway) and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life for Jake will be held Friday January 31 at 2pm at Summergrove Baptist Church in Shreveport, LA. With a visitation beginning at 12pm. Interment will follow at Centuries Memorial Park.
Honoring the family as pallbearers will be Jeremy Bergren, Josh Bergren, Mike Burleson, Taylor Goodman, Larry Pierce, Todd Walker, Bobby Herring and Daniel Booth. Honorary Pallbearers will be Landon Bergren, Grayson Bergren, Tanner Bergren, David Boone, Richard Jennings, James Guillaume, Carter Ham, Joey Moussaoui, Craig Baird, Jacob Helton, Colt Friday and Preston Dews.
In lieu of flowers, Jake’s family asks that you please make donations in his honor to the Gingerbread House. This organization held a very special place in Jake’s heart.
