Henry Ella was born on June 25, 1925 in Martin, LA and passed away on June 15, 2012 in Shreveport, LA after a courageous battle with lung cancer and Parkinsons.
Preceding her in death was her husband Hardy Hand; her parents, Thurmon and Minnie Hunter; her sisters Christine and Linda and her brother Royce.
She is survived by her sons, Ron and Steve; daughter-in-law, Sandra; brother, Lucien as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Hand started her career as a teacher in Red River Parish and retired as a purchasing agent for Riley Beaird Corp. She was a long standing member of Brookwood Baptist Church. Mom loved her lord, family and friends. She was a kind and gentle soul and a totally selfless person. Mom worried more about others than she did about herself. She was always there for anyone in need of care, compassion and support. She did this without reservation or condition. It was as natural for her as breathing. Almost as important to her family was the fact that she was the best country cook on earth. Mom was loved and will be missed by all who ever knew her.
A special thanks to devoted friend Roma Green for always being there for Mom and all her friends and relatives who have lent support and kept her in their prayers. Thanks to all those at Spring Lake Guest Care for taking such good care of Mom.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The National Children’s Cancer Society or Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
