Georgia Gladys Johnston Blackmon

Gladys was born in Benson, Louisiana April 21, 1918. She was one of seven children of Georgia Blanche Neel and Esker Rosner Neel. She passed away peacefully February 9, 2013 at the Village at the Glen after a lengthy illness. She was a long time resident of Shreveport, a member of Highland Baptist Church, and First Baptist Church. Gladys loved reading and spending time with her family and will be missed by all that knew her.

She was preceded in death by husbands, Charles Eugene Johnston, and Horace Blackmon, and her six siblings.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Darrell G. Johnston and wife Linda of Georgetown, TX, her daughter, Linda Johnston Phillips, and husband Dr. Larry L. Philips of Shreveport, LA. Four grandchildren and their spouses, Brian Phillips and wife Elisa of Jackson, MS, Damon Johnston and wife Valarie of Lakewood, CO, Leslie Phillips Johnston and husband Jon of Windermere, FL, and Derek Johnston and wife Christy of Tulsa, OK., nine great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at the Village at the Glen for their excellent and loving care, and St. Joseph’s Hospice for their care and support. Special thanks go to Dr. Don Elmajin for his compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Glen or to a charity of their choice.
