We were blessed to have learned the lessons of life, love, family and being such a calm mannered soul from Gene during his 86 years of life. He was a testament to the power of kindness, sincerity and a heart of gold.
Gene Austin Little went home to be his Lord and savior on January 22, 2024 after a lengthy illness. The family would like to invite you to a visitation on Monday, January 29, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm and a celebration of life on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home and Park, 8801 Mansfield Rd., Shreveport, Louisiana 71108. We are honored to have family friend and minister Wayne Fussell and Minister Marcus Mathis officiating.
Gene was a 1956 graduate of Byrd High School, where he soon enlisted into the United States Navy after graduation. After his discharge from the service, his career path lead him to becoming a gas dispatcher at Arkla Gas Company and retiring after 30 years of chief gas controller. After retirement, he accepted a position as manager of Shreveport City Golf courses lasting ten years until retirement. Gene was then able to enjoy his love of fishing, hunting, and spending time with his friends and family. He was a man of simple pleasures, loved his family dearly and loved Jesus Christ.
Preceded in death are his parents Joe and Marie Little. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 37 years, Shirley Ann Little. Gene was survived by his children Barbara Weichel and husband Gordon; Stephanie Dawn Flaherty; Rena Little Brundige and her husband Collins; Kevin Little and wife Suzanne; Theresa Pender and Paul Wayne Hurdle. Gene was blessed to have a devoted and caring sister at his side, Shirley Little Adams and her son, Barry Webster and family. Gene enjoyed being in the lives of his 20 grandchildren and his 26 great grandchildren.
We are gracious to have Taylor Smith, James Crow, Barry Webster, Derek Keith, Jimmie Jenkins, and Tommy Pilcher as pallbearers. We would also like to mention Collins Brundige, Sam Holt, Bobby Bailey, Garland Hughes, Glen Denmon as honorary pallbearers.
We would like to say a special thank you to Lifepath Hospice for such special care you provided to Gene and all the friends and family that continued your prayers. In lieu of flowers, you may send donations to Midway Church of Christ in Gene's honor.
