Our beloved wife and mother, Gail “CeeGee” Sorensen peacefully passed away on December 8, 2023, at the age of 82. A visitation for Gail will be held Friday, December 15, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Broadmoor United Methodist Church, 3715 Youree Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana 71105, followed by a celebration of life at 11:00 AM. Officiating the service will be Rev. Dr. Wybra Price, II. Honoring her as pallbearers are Donovan Hinton, Bo Odom, Wil Delafield, Trace Sorensen, John Fuller and Steve Reed. She will be laid to rest in Forest Park Cemetery, 3700 St. Vincent Ave., Shreveport, LA 71103.
She will be deeply missed but we rejoice knowing we will see her again in the Kingdom of Heaven. She will be remembered for the love she shared with her family and friends, and the countless lives she touched along the way.
Gail Yarbrough Sorensen was born March 27, 1941, in Pensacola, Florida to the late Cecil Brinson Yarbrough and Carajo Latham Yarbrough. She grew up in Mansfield, Louisiana. She was honored as a Beauty and performed as a Majorette at Mansfield High School, where she graduated. She earned her elementary teaching degree from Centenary College, where she was an active member of Chi Omega Sorority.
Gail met the love of her life, Bobby Sorensen, on a blind date while in college. The two got married June 9, 1963, and have been married for 60 wonderful years. They lived in Fairbanks, Alaska for a year, where she taught 1st grade on the army base before moving back to Shreveport. She taught preschool and Kindergarten at Alexander, First Baptist Church School, and Creswell Elementary serving over 30 years. After retiring she taught music at First Baptist Church School in Shreveport with her lifelong best friend, Carolyn Davis.
She was an active member of Broadmoor United Methodist Church for over 40 years, teaching cherub music and singing in the Chancel Choir. She was also a member of the Cornerstone Sunday School Class.
Gail was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was affectionately called "Ceegee" by family, a title she was proud to have. She had a strong faith and a fighting spirit. She was a 23-year breast cancer survivor.
She is preceded in death by her parents Carajo and Butch Yarbrough and her sister Cheryl Odom and Husband Sammy. Left to cherish her memory are her husband Bobby, her brother Alan Yarbrough and wife Martha, daughter Quincy Kane and husband Mike, Son Rob Sorensen; grandchildren Madison Kane, Parker Kane and wife Flore, Ashlyn Moreno, Anna Sorensen and Trace Sorensen; great grandchild Josie Moreno; nieces and nephews, Joel Salley and Daryl, Rachel Delafield and husband Wil; Bo Odom and wife Melanie, Anne Latham Dorsey, Caitlin Williams and husband Logan, Mary Vay Cobb and husband Rodney, Aimee Smith and husband Josh and a host of great nieces and nephews.
The family extends gratitude to the nurses and staff at Willis Knighton Pierremont Step Down Unit and ICU and the staff at the Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice.
