Esther met the love of her life, John Griffith, while they both worked at KCS Railroad in Pittsburg, Kansas. They married on November 19, 1942 and honeymooned in Shreveport before returning Kansas. While Esther spent most of her life as a housewife, she also loved gardening and cooking for her family. Before becoming a mother and dedicating her life to her family, Esther had careers as a KCS phone operator, a legal secretary, and as a “Rosie the Riveter” building aircraft during WWII. When her children were young, she volunteered as a Cub Scout & Brownie Leader. “Nana” as she was known to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was a sweet, loving grandmother who always made sure there was candy in their “special” candy dish.
Esther is preceded in death by her parents, Gustave and Alida Cherry; her beloved husband, John Griffith; son-in-law, Joe Miot and grandson-in-law, Matt Sims.
Left to cherish Esther’s memory is her son, Mark Griffith; daughter, Janis Miot; grandchildren, Ted Miot and wife Shari, Diana Sims, and Daniel Miot; great grandchildren, Tyler Leach and Julia Leach.
In light of the public safeguards pertaining to the current COVID-19 pandemic the family will be having a viewing and graveside service at Centuries Memorial Park with Rev. Ellie Bulnes officiating.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Nikki Player at the Chateau at Montclaire, who took care of our mother like she was her own.
