Shreveport - Erwin L. Ogletree passed away on March 3, 2023, at the age of 87 with his children by his side. A visitation will be held March 7, 2023 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home with a Funeral Service to be held at 2:00 pm on March 8, 2023.
Erwin was born on January 25, 1936, to Arthur A. Ogletree, Sr., and Mildred Plowman Ogletree and was a lifelong resident of Shreveport, LA. After graduating from Fair Park High School in 1954, he joined the U.S. Navy where he served aboard the Destroyer, U.S.S. Taussig DD 746 during the Korean war. After his naval service, Erwin attended Northwestern State University, where he graduated in 1962. After graduation, he went to work for Arkla Gas, then Western Electric, which later became AT&T, then retired from management after 24 years. He was a long-time member of Springs of Grace Baptist Church.
Erwin was affectionately known as “Daddy”, “Papa”, and “Tree” to those who loved him most. He was a kindhearted, unassuming person who never had a bad thing to say about anyone. He loved attending his grand and great grandkids’ school and sporting events and was always the photographer. Some of his most favorite times were spent with family and friends at the camp on Cross Lake. He loved the beach trips with Kay and friends Terry and Mary Kay. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Erwin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Kay Staples Ogletree; brother Arthur (Art) Ogletree, Jr.; sister-in-law Ann Hodges Ogletree; sister-in-law Linda Odom Ogletree; brother-in-law Charlie Johnson; step son-in-law Monty Wright; and step grandchild Steven Staples.
Survivors include brothers Lawrence “Larry” Ogletree; Charles L. Ogletree; sister Peggy Ogletree Johnson; children David A. Ogletree (Donna); Teresa Ogletree Conforto (Lou); and Lisa Ogletree Berry (John). Grandchildren Nicholas Ogletree (Maria); Clayton Ogletree; John Berry Jr., (Whitney) Tyler Berry (Bailey); Alison Conforto Le (Minh); and Monica Conforto. Great grandchildren Olivia Berry; Emmalin Berry; Bronx Berry; Benton Berry; Blakely Berry; Casen Ogletree and Laken Ogletree. Stepchildren Mike Staples (Denise); Melissa Staples Wright; and Monette Staples Harris (Donnie). Step grandchildren Danielle Cox (Jon); Candace Schutts (Stephen); Brian Headrick (Kristina); Gary Headrick; Michael Harris (Nikki); Michelle Harris Smiley (James) and Madison Harris. Step great grandchildren Lillian Cox; Charlotte Cox; Audrey Staples; Preslee Headrick; Paxton Headrick; Addyson Foster and Lilley Smiley, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Honoring Erwin as pallbearers will be John Berry, Jr., Tyler Berry, Nicholas Ogletree, Clayton Ogletree, Brian Headrick, Gary Headrick and Michael Harris. Interment will be at Forest Park West immediately following the service.
