Ernest Morris, 85 of Shreveport, La passed away on Sunday January 31, 2021 at the VA Medical Center. Graveside service will be held on Saturday February 6, 2021 at 12 noon at Centuries Memorial Park, 8801 Mansfield Rd. Shreveport, LA. Open visitation will be held Friday February 5, 2021 from 11am – 5pm at Zion Baptist Church John H. Wilson Chapel, 3038 Hollywood Ave, Shreveport, LA.
Ernest Morris was born May 18, 1935 to the late Mary Kate Morris and Ardis Morris. Ernest confessed to Christ at an early age and later joined the Zion Baptist Church where he remained a faithful and devoted member until his death.
He was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School. After graduating, he joined the United States Army and retired after 27 years of service as a CWO3. After his military career, he graduated from LSU of Shreveport and received a Bachelor of Science degree later, becoming a manger of the Illinois Street Apartments. Ernest was an avid Jazz lover and organized the Shreveport Jazz Club where many concerts were held in Shreveport and throughout various cities.
Ernest loved God and loved his family. He leaves to cherish his memories a loving, faithful and devoted wife Judy Morris; children, Tunia Robinson, Cynthia Thompson (Calvin), Phyllis Williams Green, Larry Williams (Brenda), Chaunta Mero (Pershing), Yvette Turner, Terry Morris, and Neveah Morris; siblings, Johnny Morris (Sandra), Louis Morris; and host of grand and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
He was preceded in death by 5 brothers, Eugene, Sylvester, Bobby, Bernard and Ardis; 2 sisters, Linda Owenshy Morris and Thelma Murray; and his parents.
The family would like to thank VA Medical Staff, Calvin Thompson, Pastor B.L. Blade Sr., the Zion Baptist Church family, John Mosley, close family and friends during this difficult time for their care and compassion. He was well loved and will greatly be missed by his family, relatives and many friends.
