Services celebrating the life of Effie Mae Johnson, 80, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 in the chapel of Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, Shreveport, LA. Officiating will be Bro. Joe Brown. Interment will follow in Centuries Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 13, 2011 at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home.
Effie was born on December 7, 1930 in Monroe, LA and passed away on June 11, 2011 in Shreveport, LA. She was a member of Liberty Missionary Baptist Church in Shreveport, LA. Mrs. Johnson was a very devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed traveling and going on vacations with her family.
Preceding Mrs. Johnson in death was her husband of 39 years, James L. Johnson, Sr.; her parents, Horace and Carrie Hobbs; sisters, Estelle Daniels, Bernice Taylor and Rae Hodges and one brother, Roy Hobbs.
Left to cherish beautiful memories of Effie are her children, Joe L. Johnson of Keithville, LA, James L. Johnson, Jr. and wife Docia of Keithville, LA and Janice Peters and husband Terry of Keithville, LA; sisters, Carrie Sue Gulett and Maurine Willison; grandchildren, Katina Blake of Keithville, LA, Jennifer Comford and husband Joe of Murfreesboro, TN, Stephen Johnson and wife Patty of Peachtree City, GA, James A. Johnson of Bossier City, LA and Brittany Johnson of Keithville, LA; great grandchildren, Madison and Caroline Comford of Murfreesboro, TN, Sierra Blake of Keithville, LA, Matthew Johnson of Atlanta, GA and Cason Johnson of Bossier City, LA. Mrs. Johnson was also awaiting a 6th great grandchild. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and very special friends.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Patterson, Dr. Miller, Dr. Hernandez and nurse Debbie Givens who cared for Mrs. Johnson for the past few years. The family also wishes to extend a special thanks to special friends, Danny and Cindy Marable who helped care for her and loved her and to the doctors and nurses who cared for her so compassionately and diligently during her final hours.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations be made to Prisms, Inc., 21800 Town Center Plaza, Suite # 266A-633, Sterling, VA- 20164, to help care for children with Smith-Magenis Syndrome, of which Mrs. Johnson’s great granddaughter Caroline was diagnosed.
