Earle Newton Dodd was born in Lodi, Texas on July 2, 1933 to the late Christine Holly Dodd and Smith Dodd. He honorably served in the United States Army as a PFC from May 18, 1953 to May 25, 1961. Earle worked for 37 years at Southern Bell Telephone Company before retiring from AT&T in 1988.
Earle loved his family, church and community. He was involved in many organizations in the Shreveport-Bossier Area throughout his life. He served as a deacon in his church. He was active in the Blue Bird Adult Cancer Camp, Pioneers Telecom, American Legion, School Board for Special Education and even, calling Bingo at nursing homes in the area for over 20 years but also many others. His passion for helping others was evident in every project he took on and every commitment.
Earle passed away in Shreveport, Louisiana on Friday, September 27, 2024 at the age of 91. He is now reunited with his son, Duane A. Dodd, his parents, and siblings, Sue Dodd Waldron, Loriane "Toots" Dodd Roach, Robert Dodd, Smith Dodd Jr. and Howard Dodd.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 68 years, Jacque Bradford Dodd; son, Earle Newton Dodd Jr. and wife, Laura Pug Dodd; grandchildren, Teresa Dodd Weiland and husband, Eric Weiland, Earle Newton "Trey" Dodd III; great grandchildren, Eric Christian Weiland II and fiancé, Sarah Edelen, BreAnne Nicole Jones and husband, Joseph Jones, Jonah Dodd and Ember Dodd; great great-grandchild, Mason Reed Jones; along with several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
A visitation for Earle will be held Wednesday, October 2, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana 71108 followed by A celebration of life at 12:00 PM. A graveside will occur Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Greenwood Cemetery, 9144 Greenwood Cemetery Rd, Greenwood, LA 71033. Officiating the service will be Rev. Dennis Aaron. Serving as pallbearers are Christian Weiland, Joe Jones, Trey Dodd, Greg Bradford, Chris Bradford, and Justin Davis. Honorary pallbearers are Eric Weiland, Kelley Brogdon, Glenn Taylor, Joel Frasier, Ron Hoff, Charley Bradford and Berry Wardlaw.
