Beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt Dorothy Martin Carroll enjoyed her earthly life, but was mindful that everything, though it appeared to be real was temporary. God’s promise of Heaven, while she could not see it, was eternal. Her faith never waivered.
Born and raised in rural Lincoln Parish in the 1920’s, she and her sister Mary grew up knowing hard times, but with industriousness and creativity they persevered to build strong families based on their faith in God.
Married to Elias George Carroll, Jr. on October 2, 1945, Dorothy devoted her life to her family. An excellent cook, homemaker, seamstress, and gardener, everything she did was to the glory of God and the benefit of her loved ones. Regardless of where George’s job took them, she was always by his side, helping him put down roots.
She is survived by daughter Ann Carroll Dupont and husband Paul; daughter Lynn Carroll Brown and husband Wesley; son George Carroll III and wife Jane; granddaughter Denise Dupont Harrington and husband Tim; grandson Wesley Brown, Jr. and fiancée Janell Birmingham; grandson Alan Brown and wife Dionne, and their two sons Eli and Arlo.
Her family, including numerous nieces and nephews will miss her, but are certain that her greatest prayer has been answered-to be reunited with all those she loved so much who have predeceased her: parents Ruby Farrell Martin and Altha Armittie Gipson Martin; husband Elias George Carroll, Jr.; sister and brother-in-law Mary and D.C. DuBois; and niece Lynda DuBois Lockwood.
The family wishes to express gratitude to Sam Jones, who was a special caregiver to “Miss Dorothy” during her later years.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Friday, August 31, 2018 at Centuries Memorial chapel, with funeral services to follow, officiated by Jerry Hodge, minister at University Church of Christ. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Dupont, Wesley Brown, Wesley Brown, Jr., Alan Brown, David DuBois, and Sam Jones.
