Dorothy spent her formative years in Doyline Louisiana surrounded by what she termed good “country folks”. By this she meant God fearing people who worked everyday for a living and who didn’t ask for handouts. Growing up with 7 siblings meant that she didn’t get all that she wanted, but she got enough. She would pick cotton before starting school, pick beans as needed, and along with her siblings performed a myriad of duties associated with mid-century country living. These experiences defined her later life. Her married home was immaculately cleaned from baseboards to ceiling, and she raised her daughters with the same no nonsense parenting style with which she was reared. However, she doted on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She retired from the payroll department at LSU Med Center, where she was known as “Speedy” for how quickly she completed her work. In early retirement she took frequent trips with her husband Earl, visiting Mt. Rushmore and Branson among other places. Growing up, Dorothy didn’t get all that she wanted, but she made sure that her grandsons and great grandchildren did. She was a master grit chef, a tricky domino player, and a loving grandmother. There is nothing that Dorothy would not do for her family. Those of us who called her sister, mother, or “Momo” all have memories of life with Dorothy which we will always cherish.
