Dorothy Belle Bartlett, age 83, passed away Monday, May 14, 2012 in Pullman, Washington. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 26th at 1:30 pm at Christ United Methodist Church, 1204 Crabapple Drive, Shreveport with burial to follow at Centuries Memorial Park.
Dorothy was born July 4, 1928 in Edinburg, Texas to Charlie and Lois (Morgan) Weber. The family moved to Corpus Christi where Dorothy graduated from high school. She was an excellent student who loved singing in the choir and playing piano. While attending Corpus Christi Junior College, Dorothy met a fine young Marine who was returning home from war; she married Charles H. Ward April 5, 1947. They moved to Edinburg where he and her dad opened the Ward & Weber Auto Dealership and sold the Plymouth and Dodge line. Dorothy and Charles were blessed when their only daughter, Dorothy Kay, was born. Dorothy kept busy as a wife and mother. Mr. Ward passed away thirteen years later. She moved to Corpus Christi and began working as a lab technician in a chemical laboratory. She married Les Bartlett on July 4, 1966. They moved to Orange, Texas and later to Shreveport, Louisiana. Les passed away in 1987. Dorothy worked in the CADDO school district with special needs children between the ages of 3 and 6 for over 20 years. She was a very gifted teacher and her students were a gift from God. Dorothy enjoyed her job to its fullest. She retired in 2000. She moved to Lubbock, Texas in 2004 to be closer to her daughter and then to Pullman in September of last year; again to be with her daughter. Dorothy was very active in her church in Shreveport. Music was her true passion and she was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church choir, the “Joyful Noise” singing group and The Builders Club all at her church. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren & great grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Dorothy Kay Ward of Pullman, Washington; Frederick Bartlett of Sidell, LA; James Bartlett of Longview, TX; Marian Riddles of San Antonio, TX; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands and her parents.
