CMSgt. Donald Leroy Davis (Retired), age 90, passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2023 in Shreveport, Louisiana, after suffering a stroke. Visitation will be at 10:00 am, on Thursday, April 6, 2023, with a service at 11:00 am, at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home 8801 Mansfield Rd., Shreveport, LA 71108. Interment will follow at 1:00 pm at Northwest Louisiana Veteran’s Cemetery with full military honors. Officiating will be Pastor Joan Iker of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, where Mr. Davis was a long-time member.
“Poppy” as he was lovingly called, was born June 27, 1932, raised in New Lebanon, Ohio and has resided in Shreveport, Louisiana since 1979. Before joining the service, he obtained his Eagle Scout rank in the Boy Scouts of America, which was an accomplishment for which he was always proud. Mr. Davis retired from the United States Air Force in 1973 with 22 years of dedicated service. He served in Africa, Azores, Philippines, Hawaii, Vietnam, Florida, Michigan and Louisiana. His decorations include Senior Air Crew Wings, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, four Air Force Commendation Medals, as well as numerous other decorations. In 1992, he retired as Legal Administrator for the First Judicial District Attorney’s Office, Caddo Parish, Louisiana. He has served as President, Treasurer and Librarian of GENCOM, a genealogy group in Shreveport. He was an active member of the Barksdale Retired Chief Master Sergeants Group, and a 65-year member of the Blue Lodge Masons, Royal Arch Masons and Islam Shrine Temple. Mr. Davis was a charter member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Bossier City and Shreveport, Louisiana.
Mr. Davis is survived by his wife of 68 years, Jimmie Carolyn Williams Davis, his daughter, Donna Carol Havel of San Antonio, Texas, his grandson, Jacob Davis Havel of San Antonio, Texas and sister, Jean Roberts.
He was preceded in death by his son, Anthony Lee Davis, and parents, George F. Davis and Ferne Augusta Richards Davis.
