Leroy began working for Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company in 1951 as a line man and telephone installer. Although the company name changed many times, presently Lucent Technologies (AT&T), he worked faithfully for them until his retirement in 1986.
Leroy was an accomplished acrylic artist and painted numerous beautiful wildlife scenes. He also enjoyed building models of ships and reading. He authored two books, one published, titled Atchafalaya Black Gold. He was extremely talented in repairing any vehicle, home appliance or computer. He enjoyed researching family genealogy and made family history books for all his children and grandchildren. Leroy loved to travel and enjoyed camping in Arkansas and Colorado. His favorite place was the camp he and Mary had on Black Bayou. He was a loving husband and wonderful father who loved his family and many friends.
Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Leroy Terry, Vera Leola Moxley Terry and one sister, Lura Edna Terry Hulett. Also preceding him in death was the love of his life, his beautiful wife of 65 years, Mary Lamont Terry.
He is survived by his three daughters, Lisa Duhon (husband Norm), Laura Ramsaur (husband James), and Liz Lewis (husband Stephen). He was lovingly known as Papaw to nine grandchildren, Sarah Friday, Zachary Friday, Mitchell Friday, Nathan Duhon, Matthew Ramsaur (wife Anna), Melissa Laparra (husband Daniel), John Ramsaur, Landon Lewis (wife Neeley), and Trenton Lewis. Also left to cherish his memory are numerous nieces and nephews, as well as many friends, whom he loved dearly.
A Visitation for Leroy will be held Friday, August 26, 2022 from 10:00 - 11:00 AM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana 71108. A Graveside Service will follow at 11:00 AM in Centuries Memorial Park.
Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
