(November 9, 1937- November 24, 2010)
El Dorado, AR
Charles Lindsey “Bubba” Dawes was born in DeQueen, Arkansas in 1937 to mother Johnnie and father Loren. Due to complications at birth resulting in cerebral palsy, as well as pre-vaccine bouts with polio causing loss of limb, Bubba was confined to a wheelchair for his entire adult life. This, however, never detracted his love of life and people.
Those who knew Bubba will remember how he took so much pleasure in the little things- a fresh cup of coffee, wrestling magazines, and a LSU football game on TV. He looked forward to his annual state fair outing with his brother-in-law, writing wish list letters to Santa Claus with his sister, and eating fish on his birthday which celebration he somehow seemed to extend for several weeks. More than anything, he loved flirting with the ladies and will be remembered for how this topic when broached would ignite an ear-to-ear grin.
Bubba was and will forever be an inspiration for all. For someone that endured so much physical struggle at an early age and given little chance for longevity, he never lost his enthusiasm, faith, or sense of humor. Most will agree that his approach to life was unbridled. He laughed when he wanted, cried when he wanted, and even belched when he wanted. And now, he gets to dance when he wants. Enjoy your baby boy Meme and PawPaw Dawes, you’ve got a lot of dancing to do!
Bubba died Wednesday morning at Hudson Memorial Nursing Home in El Dorado, Arkansas under the first-rate care and watchful eye of the nursing staff, aids, Dr. Bevil, Aunt Dee Dee, and “Unc”, to whom the entire family is indebted. He is survived by his sister Joy Lynn Gaensehals of Shreveport, brother-in-law Frank Gaensehals of Shreveport, nephew Eric Gaensehals and his wife Tammy of Austin, Texas, niece Emily Gaensehals and her fiancée Chris Mock of Baton Rouge, cousins Nancy and Willie Varnell of El Dorado, Arkansas, and numerous other friends and family.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 29, 2010, at Centuries Memorial Park. The family will receive friends and loved ones on Sunday evening between the hours of 5:00 p.m. at 7:00 p.m. at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home.
