Carolyn Melton, loving mother, grandmother, wife, and sister, passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2023. She loved fall foliage and the changing leaves. Though she was only blessed with brothers through birth, she loved spending time with her adopted sister she found through teaching, being a member of a teaching sorority called Alpha Delta Kappa for roughly 38 years, and through her broken china crafting, which she called her “therapy.”
Carolyn was an educator for 40 years, teaching fifth grade for two years before becoming an elementary school librarian, where she taught kids that it was okay to not know the answer as long as you knew how to find it. The first five or six years were in Louisiana, where her parents lived and she received her education, but the remaining years were with Pulaski County School District in central Arkansas.
She is survived by her husband, Robert, all three of her brothers, John, Gary (Connie), and Bob, and her mother's youngest sister, Aunt Barbara. She also survived by her two children, two stepchildren, and their spouses, who she treated like her own: Pamela (Jeremy), Timothy (Laura), Casey (Missie), and Russel (Amy). Through them, she had six grandchildren: Christopher, Daren, Kayla, Tucker, Tripp, and Savannah.
Her memorial funeral service will be held at Centuries Memorial Chapel, located at 8801 Mansfield Rd in Shreveport, LA on Wednesday, November 1, 2023. The visitation is at 9 am, followed immediately by the memorial funeral at 10 am.
