Bertha Lee Jones Marshall was born on November 10, 1934 in Campti, LA and passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, at her home in Shreveport, LA July 13th, 2023. She was affectionately known as "Momo", "Aunt Bert", "Lil Sis" by many family and friends.
Born to Grissom and Easter Jones, Bertha was one of nine children. At an early age, she developed a strong relationship with the Lord. Over her lifetime, the fruits of the spirit would be evident in every walk of her life. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control are all traits that permeated her life out towards all who knew her.
On October 4, 1952, Bertha married the love of her life, Jesse Marshall (J.D.). Together they had six children and raising them was her pride and joy. She spent her career with Christus Schumpert Hospital, retiring in 1999. Bertha was a loyal member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Shreveport, LA for 70 years. She brought her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren to church with her. She served on the usher board and lent her many gifts to church activities and functions. She also loved to use her beautiful voice to praise and worship.
Bertha was blessed with the gift of cooking and it would be no exaggeration to say that thousands have been comforted and nourished by her culinary greatness. She volunteered and served meals to her community from her own kitchen for decades. Whoever came through the door was welcomed with genuine love and respect. Bertha was a listening ear and provided Godly wisdom whenever she was needed. While she gave most of her baked goods to others, she was always the cookie taste-tester.
Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons, James and Ronald Wayne, daughter, Lawanna, brothers, Ben, Jeff, Carl, Carson, sisters, Dorothy and Vernita and great grandsons, Riley and Dejuanye.
