Alice C. Richardson

She was preceded in death by her parents Virgil (Sarah) Coleman, Sr., brothers Andrew and Virgil Coleman Jr., an infant sister, and her beloved husband of 42 years, Norman L. Richardson.

Alice is survived by her daughter, Janet Richardson, and three grandchildren; Marshall (Kaitlyn) McInnis, Mitchell McInnis of Mooringsport, Louisiana, Marriell McInnis of Keithville, Louisiana, and niece Lynn (Brian) Luckianow of Homewood, Alabama.

After graduating from Texas Woman's University in 1957 with a degree in Education and marrying the love of her life, Norman, the same year, "Mrs. R" began her teaching career at C.E. Byrd High School in Shreveport, Louisiana. In 1962 she began teaching English, Fine Arts, Drama, and Debate at "The Castle", Woodlawn High School, also located in Shreveport, Louisiana. She ultimately returned to teach at Byrd until her retirement in 2009 after 52 consecutive years of teaching.

Alice was a loving and dedicated mother and Nana, and it was clear to all who knew her that her grandchildren were her greatest joy. She was devoted to teaching and touched the lives and hearts of thousands. She loved reading, gardening, and the color yellow. She lived a long, full, and happy life, and was the very definition of a "lady". She will forever be remembered for not only her unconditional love, endless encouragement and lightening quick wit, but also her uncanny ability to have a song at the ready to sing for virtually any situation.

All are welcome to join her family in a celebration of her life May 7th at 2 PM the family's home; 857 Wilkinson St. Shreveport, Louisiana 71104 with a reception to follow. Reverend Carl Rhodes of First United Methodist, where Alice had been a member since 1964, will officiate and will be joined by Brother Scott Shirley of Southern Care Hospice. Special thanks to Crystal Bibbee RN for her kind, compassionate, and exemplary hospice care.
