Don was born on January 4, 1942 in Waterville, Maine. He was the son of Lionel and Gloria (Loisel) Maillet. Don graduated from Waterville High School in 1961. He joined the US Navy in 1961 and served on aircraft carriers until his retirement in 1981 with the rank of Senior Chief. Don Married Elizabeth Prochaska on May 30, 1987 in a waterfront ceremony at East Pond in Oakland Maine. After retiring from the service, he returned to his hometown of Waterville Maine where he was active in the community and held the office of Director of Public Works. He was an active member of the Waterville Elk’s Lodge 905 for many years while he lived in Benton. He and his wife transitioned to a warmer climate in 2003 to Shiner, Texas. where he continued to be an active member in his community, lending a helping hand where needed and as a member of the Shiner American Legion, VFW. He was also active in the local church.
Don is survived by Betty,his loving wife of 32 years, his son Nathan Maillet and his wife, JoAnn of Springfield Virginia, his daughter Claudine Maillet of Oakland Maine, his sisters; Jeanne Zanin and her husband, Will of Springfield Virginia, Gail Handleman and her husband Brian, of Coconut Creek, Florida, his grandchildren; Corey Maillet, Josh Boucher, Chantel Nadeau, Megan Boucher, and his Great grandchildren; Haley Nadeau, Everett Burton and Hannah Maillet. He was preceded in death his parents; Lionel and Gloria Maillet,
his brother Lee Maillet, and his sister Maureen Poulin.
He will be sorely missed by his many friends and growing family. He leaves a big hole in the hearts that knew him and loved him. He can rest in peace knowing the legacy he left behind will continue on.
