Betty Jo Kucera passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2014, at age 73. She was born August 31, 1941 in Shiner, Texas. Betty attended and graduated from St. Ludmila Academy in Shiner, and later married Charles Kucera of Houston in 1973. The couple lived and worked in Houston, Betty being employed as an electronic assembler for Hydril for several years. She enjoyed gardening and canning her own produce, and particularly loved putting together jigsaw puzzles. Betty was quite skilled with artistic and crafty projects, often decorating her home and Christmas tree with items she had made herself. After retirement in 1993 Betty and Charles moved back to Shiner, and Betty cared for her mother. Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth Antonia (Havel) Kurtz and Alphons Kurtz. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Charles Kucera, sister in law Mary Ann Kucera of Shiner, brother Alphonse Kurtz of Shiner, and nieces and cousins in both the Shiner and Houston, Texas areas. Funeral services for Betty will be at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner on Saturday, January 3, 2015, with rosary beginning at 9:30am and funeral Mass at 10am. The burial and reception will follow at the church cemetery and parish activity center.
