Dear West Family,
       I am so sorry for your loss. John was my Dad’s nephew.
George Warren West  was the brother of Uncle Leonard .
 He used to bring his children to visit in Fairfax.Va.  
Mom ( Loretta) and Dad (Warren) enjoyed having them over.
  I wish you could have met them.   Take care of yourselves

I’m a Daddy’s girl and always will be.  I have so many great memories of spending time with Dad.  We took road trips to car races, and he turned my husband into a Nascar race fan.  We went to Dover, Pocono, and Charlotte.  One of my favorite memories is of him using his CB to talk to the truckers going down the road to get the scoop on what was up ahead.  He taught me a lot of things, specifically how to take care of my cars and kept me in tires for years.  We spent time with the West family on Cob Island, going to car races and learning how they caught crabs.

My Dad could make the best PBJ sandwiches, after my daughter was born, he came and took care of me, to this day I still love a good PBJ sandwich.  I could always call him with any problem, and he would tell me how to fix it, one time specifically I called when the dryer wouldn’t work.  He said did you check the lint filter (who knew dryers had lint filters), he got a good laugh out of that one.  He could fix just about anything.  

We worked together in his dry-cleaning store, and I learned a lot, from running the register, to using the clothes rack conveyor, and how to be organized.  He was very organized he even had a specific way you had to put the money in the register.  To this day I still organize the money in my wallet.  

I loved being able visit Dad and Dee in Shenandoah, sometimes we’d meet in Luray for lunch or just have lunch at their home and play cards (Kings Corner).  I’d call to just chat and catch up, we covered a lot of ground in those conversations, God and spirituality, life, family, and friends. 
 
There are many more great memories I have of spending time with and talking to my Dad that I hold close to my heart.  Rest in Peace Dad you will be missed.

You are always in my thoughts and prayers.  Dad found a great partner in you.  Your simply living and quiet life style gave Dad exactly what he needed.  Thank you for taking such good care of him throughout your time together.

DAD

Losing a loved one is rough, losing a DAD is tough. DAD always seemed to know what to do. DAD always knew how to fix something. A car, a furnace, a washing machine, gutters, roofs, sheds. DAD just had a knack of being able to keep things running and looking good. 

Dad knew how to do the little things that often went unnoticed. When I played little league football, DAD and I would go and pick up some of my teammates who did not have a way to get to practice. I loved those trips, me and a bunch of other kids in the old Ford Falcon station wagon (well I think it was a Ford Falcon) on the way to George Mason High School. DAD helped out as an equipment manager for the league also. 

In high school I remember DAD was the one who made sure the American Flag was raised and lowered properly at all the home football games. DAD was the one who became the van driver for the Day Care facility that my wife was running in Reston. All the children ended up calling him “GrandDAD”. DAD did many things, and I think he preferred that they went unnoticed. 

I will remember DAD in many ways and for many things. Most of those things seemed to revolve around cars. DAD knew how to fix a car and keep one running and looking good. I remember taking rides in all the different cars he owned, going to parks in Arlington, going to the dump in Chantilly, going to football practices, going to football games or going to the beach on a short vacation. 

DAD was there when the time came for me to start driving. DAD helped me find my first car, helped me make it look cool (an orange VW bug). DAD helped me maintain and repair that old bug. DAD knew how to do many things. Should someone need help, DAD would be there no matter what time of day or night or how far he might have to drive. DAD would be there for them, even for someone who just let an orange VW bug run out of gas.

The memories of my DAD are plenty and I will cherish all of them. Rest in peace DAD, you will be missed.

John served alongside many of us  as a team member on the Men's Emmaus Walk at Camp Overlook. He was encouraging to be around and a barrel of laughs during the skits we participated in together. My family visited Furnace church one Sunday and John made certain to  introduce me and our family to all of his friends. Thanks for the good memories John and for being my brother in Christ.

John was such a kind man. I worked with him at NAPA in elkton. He was always smiling. Sorry to hear of his passing.
