A son of the late Thomas and Alice Lam Reid, he was born on February 1, 1922, in Shenandoah. He graduated from Shenandoah High School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Reid worked as an electrician in many states and settled back to the Shenandoah community in 1980 before retiring in 1983. He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Shenandoah VFW, and was past Worshipful Master of Ashlar Lodge 125. He loved his family, his church, gardening and beekeeping.
In May 1967, he married Rita Hafner Reid who survives. Also surviving are three children, Gene Reid and his wife, Sandy, of Philadelphia, PA; Glenn A. Reid of Philadelphia, PA; and Rita Maria Reid of Charlottesville; two grandchildren, Brian and Dawn Reid of Philadelphia; two sisters, Dorothy Flint and her husband, Freddy; and Mary E. Taylor, all of Baltimore; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers, Carl, Thomas, Roy, Elwood and Harry Reid.
The family will receive friends from 10 am until 12 noon Thursday, April 14th at Lindsey-Kyger Funeral Home in Shenandoah or at the residence at any time.
Funeral services will follow at 12 noon on Thursday at the funeral home with Pastors Patti Covington and Mark Briehl officiating. Burial will follow in the Methodist Cemetery.
