Rita was born November 27, 1919 in Sheboygan to Theodore and Ernestine (Beiersdorf) Sprangers. She graduated from Sheboygan High School, Class of 1936.
Rita was employed at WHBL in various capacities including being an announcer and show host.
On April 6, 1940 Rita and Clyde Jansen were united in marriage at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church. Clyde and Rita worked together owning and operating Lakeside Pepsi until her retirement. Clyde preceded her in death in June of 1986.
Mrs. Jansen was a member of St. Dominic Parish where she was active for over 70 years.
Rita was one of the founders of Sheboygan County Association for Retarded Children where she held the position of secretary for a number of years. She was an advocate of education and equal opportunity for special citizens in Sheboygan County.
Rita enjoyed playing golf, well into her 80’s. Until recently, many happy times were spent with special friends playing Dominos.
Survivors include four children, Jacqueline (Edward) McKelvey of Sheboygan, Janis (Charles) Iverson of Belvidere, Illinois, Jody Jansen (Tom Lonnquist) of Portsmouth, New Hampshire and Jeffrey Jansen of Sheboygan; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Rita was preceded in death by a grandson, E.J. McKelvey and six brothers and sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:30 A.M.Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at St. Dominic Catholic Church by Rev. Philip Reifenberg, the Pastor. A time of visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday, , from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service. Private entombment will follow at Holy Cross Mausoleum.
A memorial fund has been established in Rita’s name for Camp Evergreen in Sheboygan.
Rita will always be remembered for the kindness and support she extended to others, especially to those with special needs
