Joe was born April 4, 1941 in Sheboygan to Stephan and Caroline (Driexler) Herm. He attended local schools and was a graduate of Sheboygan North High School, Class of 1960.
He served his country in the US Navy from 1960 to 1962 stationed at Norfolk, VA.
Following his honorable discharge he worked at Vollrath Co.and Plastics Engineering before beginning his thirty-five year employment at Coca-Cola Sheboygan, retiring in April, 2006.
On November 5, 1966 Joe was united in marriage to Jan Meyer.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sheboygan.
Joe was an avid Green Bay Packer and Milwaukee Brewers fan and enjoyed many trips to Las Vegas. His family was the most important part of his life. He was proud to instill values and a work ethic in his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his loving wife, Jan, he is survived by his son, Michael (Denise) Herm of Sheboygan Falls; two daughters, Michelle Herm of Manitowoc and Melissa (special friend, Terry Ernst) Herm of Sheboygan; four grandchildren, Aaron Warner of Sheboygan, Breanna Herm of Little Canada, MN, Sierra Joosse and Gunnar Joosse both of Sheboygan ; two great-grandchildren, Braden Bodi of Fox Point and Brayden Hartman of Little Canada, MN; his brother, Steve (Jeanne) Herm and his sister-in-law, Char (Eldon) Rahn all of Sheboygan; nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister; a brother, John Herm; a brother-in-law, Ken Meyer; and his in-laws, Kenneth and Myrtle Meyer.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 1, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Ballhorn Chapels. Rev. Timothy J. Mech, Pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, will officiate. A time of visitation and support will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Following the service, military honors will be accorded.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name.
Joe’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Kumar and the wonderful staff at Vince Lombardi Clinic; Dr. Machare at the Sheboygan Clinic; and the kind, caring, and supportive staff at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital.
Joe will always be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and the love he held for his family. He will be dearly missed.
