John was born May 2, 1924 in Sheboygan to Arnold and Frieda (Detroye) Kuester. He attended local Sheboygan schools and was a graduate of Sheboygan Central High School.
On June 23, 1945 John was united in marriage to Hester Verhelst in Sheboygan. The couple resided in the fourteen hundred block of Pennsylvania Avenue most of their married life.
He was employed at Thomas Industries in Sheboygan for 25 years until his retirement. John was an active union member and former president for the Local 1060.
John enjoyed bingo at Golden Living Center and was known as the candy man throughout the facility. He enjoyed watching sports, especially the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, and Milwaukee Bucks.
He was active in St. Andrew’s choir before becoming a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
John is survived by three children, Karen (Myrle) Claerbaut of Oostburg, Linda (Randy) Meyer of Sheboygan, and John A. (Vicki) Kuester of Merrill, Wisconsin; eight grandchildren, Marleen, Kevin, Sara, Benjamin, Christopher, Melissa, James, and Justin; twenty-three great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, Hester, John was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth and Joanne and infant granddaughter, Heather.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Rev. Adam L. Scheblein, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will take place in Gibbsville Cemetery. A time of visitation and support will be held at the church on Wednesday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name. John’s family sends a heartfelt thank you to his Doctors, St. Nicholas Hospital ICU, the caregivers at Golden Living Center, and Pastor Adam Scheblein for their kindness and concern.
