George Christus, age 76, of Sheboygan, died Monday morning, August 13, 2012 surrounded by his loving family at Morningside Health Center. He had been a resident there for the past 14 months. George was born on July 13, 1936, the son of Mary and Daniel Christus. The last of nine children, he was the only child born in the hospital.
George attended local schools and was a graduate of Sheboygan Central High School, Class of 1956. After graduation George enlisted in the US Army and completed his training at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. He continued his service as a Reservist through October, 1963.
Following several years of employment at Phoenix Chair Co., George began work at Sheboygan South High School in 1966 as a second shift custodian. After 13 years, George became night foreman and worked in that capacity for 16 years. He retired after 29 years at South High. He was well liked by staff and students alike.
An avid Green Bay Packer fan, George was never one to miss a game on TV. Having nieces that lived in Chicago brought on many a friendly wager and funny gifts to each other during the Packer-Bears games.
George is survived by two sisters, Virginia Christus, Sheboygan and Janet (Ike) Stathas, Scottsdale, Arizona. He is further survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Louis and Nick and three sisters, Helen Tempas, Georgia Sardis and Irene Triandopoulos.
George was a lifelong member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church, Sheboygan and was very proud of his Greek heritage. He will be sadly missed by family and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 16, 2012 at 12 noon at St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church, 1425 S. 10th Street, Sheboygan, WI. Rev. Father Peter Pappademetriou will officiate. Friends may call at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Wildwood Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established in his name.
The family would like to thank the staff at Morningside Health Center for the loving care and compassion shown to George.
George always thought of others
and had a helping hand to give and a smile to share.
