Gene was born August 27, 1923 on his parent’s farm near Haven in the Town of Mosel. He was the second son of Arno and Laura (Pieper) Gesch. He attended Haven State Grade School. He also attended Sheboygan Central High School. Gene served his country during World War II in the United States Marine Corps and was stationed in the South Pacific.
On March 1, 1944 Gene and Helen Margaret Gerk were united in marriage. They recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.
After his honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, Gene operated a service station in Haven. From 1950 to 1965 he and his brother, Arnie, operated the Shell Service Station on 8th and Michigan in Sheboygan. For the next 23 years, Gene was employed at Snap-On Tools Corporation. His work transferred him to Saginaw, MI, Birmingham, AL and Nashville, TN. Gene retired in 1987 and remained in Tennessee until 2008 when he and Helen moved back to Sheboygan.
In his retirement, Gene enjoyed doing volunteer work and spent many hours on golf courses in Florida, Tennessee and Wisconsin. Gene and Helen would spend time in Florida during the winter and travel to Sheboygan in the summer. Gene enjoyed life; especially with Helen, his friend, companion and loving wife.
