William was born in Ft Polk Army Hospital, Louisiana to the late Cecil Eldridge and Inez Dorothea (Jones) Johnston on January 6, 1957. He graduated from Shawnee High School and went on to attend Oklahoma University. William retired from Tinker AFB in 2015 after 30 years of dedicated service as a civil servant, where he worked in the Finance Department in the Military and Civilian Pay office.
Some of William’s proudest moments were when he became a father to his two wonderful son’s, Tyler William and Patrick Ryan Johnston, when Tyler married Stephanie Rena (Hall) Johnston where he gained a daughter, and when he became a grandfather to Rowen Tyler Johnston. William was active in the community, following in his dad, Cecil’s footsteps. He loved spending time with his family and would help anyone at the drop of a hat. He was an avid OU fan, loved playing his music loudly, loved his pups like he loved his family, and loved cooking, playing poker, and being outside working in his garden.
William rejoins his loved ones, father, Cecil Eldridge Johnston, mother, Inez Dorothea (Jones) Johnston, step-mother, F. Louise (Slack-Roark) Johnston, sister, Patricia Inez Smith-Derk; and step brother-in-law, R. Frank Hudson. He is survived by his son Tyler W. Johnston, wife Stephanie, and grandson Rowen of Shawnee, Oklahoma; son Patrick “Ryan” Johnston of San Antonio, Texas; nephew Christopher W. Smith of Tecumseh, Oklahoma; step-brother Bert F. Roark, wife Elizabeth, and their children/grandchildren of San Bernardino, California; step-brother, Richard L. Roark and wife, Peggy of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; step-sister, Anita R. Roark of Shawnee, Oklahoma; nephews, Kenneth H. Roark, Chad A. Roark and wife, Kristine, and their families of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; and numerous family and friends.
