Rory was a spirited husband, father, and grandfather. He will be remembered for his laughter, wisdom, and service to his country. He was born on March 8, 1967, in Ft. Worth, Texas to Roy and Jimmie (Willmett) Thompson.
Rory lived a rich life in service to God, family, and country. Whether he was building airplanes for other veterans or working on his own prized 2005 red Mustang. Rory loved working with his hands. He took utmost pride in being a doting son, brother, and cousin. He delighted in spending time with his 6 grandchildren.
While serving in the United States Air Force he was awarded many metals. Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Air Force Commendation Medal with four oak leaf clusters, Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with six oak leaf clusters, Combat Readiness Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with six oak leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal with one service star, Southwest Asia, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Air Force Overseas Ribbon Short, Air Force Overseas Ribbon Long, Air Force Expeditionary Service Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service with 4 oak leaf clusters, USAF, NCO, PME Graduate Ribbon with 2 oak leaf clusters, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon (Pistol), Air Force Training Ribbon, Kuwait Liberation Medal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the Kuwait Liberation Medal Government of Kuwait.
Rory’s big heart and warm smile was a treasure to everyone he met, he unfailingly loved his family. Rory’s memory will live on in all who love and cherish him.
He is survived by his loving parents, Roy and Jimmie Thompson; devoted wife, Veronica Goss-Thompson; children: Lee Thompson, Brittani Haith, Katherine Harvey, Kasey Robertson, and Emily Morava; his brothers, Troy and Jody Thompson; and his grandchildren: Alex Morava, Austin Williams, Aiden Schott, Everett Williams, Nova Malerba, Calvin Harvey, and Jackson Haith.
Memorial donations may be made in Rory’s name to Emerald Hospice, 925 N.W. 164th Street, Edmond, OK 73013 and to The V.A. Palliative Care Team, 4th Floor, 921 N.E. 13th Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73104.
A celebration of life for Rory will be held Friday, December 6, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel, 44909 Highway 3, Shawnee, OK 74801.
