Robert Marion Palmer, 77, of Sterling Heights, Mi, passed away on August 6, 2023, in Sterling Heights, MI. He was born on July 28, 1946, in Paris, Texas. Robert had a distinguished military career, serving in the Army for 20 years and achieving the rank of Sergeant First Class.
During his military service, Robert proudly served his country in various capacities. He also received his Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering while in the service.
Following his military service, Robert embarked on a successful career with General Dynamics Land Systems in Sterling Heights, Michigan, where he worked for 25 years. General Dynamics Land Systems specialized in the production and maintenance of Abrams tanks. Robert excelled as a team leader, ensuring the efficient operation and upkeep of these powerful machines. As a team leader he served in places such as Desert Storm, Bosnia, Kosovo, and Saudi Arabia.
Outside of his professional life, Robert indulged in various hobbies. He had a passion for collecting and building model cars, stamps, and other collectibles. Additionally, he found joy in watching football and car racing on television.
Robert Palmer is survived by his sisters: Renda G Kever and husband John; Jada S Young and husband Jeff of Shawnee, Oklahoma; Lori A Edminsten and husband Terry of Okemah, Oklahoma. His brother, Dan Vaught, and wife Debbie of Hillard, Ohio. He is also survived by his step-daughters: Christina, Rhonda, and Kim, all of Texas, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
Robert was preceded in death by his father, Robert H Palmer; mother, Ruby D (Cluster) Havens; brothers, Ronnie Gene Palmer, Roy Benny Palmer, and Jerome Vaught; and his companion of 24 years, Anna Murpi.
Robert Marion Palmer will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his country during his military service and his exemplary career with General Dynamics Land Systems. His passion for collecting and his love for sports will be cherished by those who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
