Mildred remained very active, being involved by volunteering for the Tecumseh library, participating in reading programs with young children, VFW, Senior Citizen Center and American Legion. It was not unusual for Mildred to call the local city hall with opinions about the current politics.
She loved plants, growing them and giving them away. She loved the challenge of taking a sick plant and bringing it back to life. She was an avid reader on many topics, but especially enjoyed reading the older Lois Lamar western books, because of the history that was included in the story. Among her many talents, she was also a skilled seamstress and could often be found with needle in hand, creating nice clothing or mending for her family. It was not unusual for a stray cat to find a home with Mildred. Giving a helping hand to those in need was not an uncommon event either.
