Katie was born on January 18, 2004, at 4:08 PM to Amanda Black and Ira “Leroy” Fultz. She arrived six weeks early, weighing 4 pounds, 10 ounces. From the very beginning, she was a fighter, overcoming incredible odds with a lifesaving surgery within 24 hours of birth that gave her only a 3% chance of survival. Her strength, resilience, and unwavering joy were an inspiration to all who knew her.
Katie attended Bethel High School, where she was a Super Senior. She touched the lives of many with her silly faces, kind heart, and infectious laughter. Katie loved music and loved to dance, though only when no one was watching or trying to join her. She also loved her iPad and never went anywhere without it. You could often hear Steve Harvey shout “And the answer is!” as she laughed and watched Family Feud, adding to the joy of her day.
Katie had many favorite shows, including SpongeBob, Bubble Guppies, Fresh Beat Band, and The Upside Down Show, which she affectionately called “Shane and David.” These shows brought her hours of laughter, and she was always excited to watch them.
Katie loved going out to eat, and every restaurant was a “house” to her — Pizza House, Chip House, etc. Her favorite was Chip House, where she would always order queso, flour tortillas, salsa, and as much guacamole as they would bring her, along with a side of quesadillas.
Katie was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Carol and Edward Ailey; her grandparents, Robert Quinn, Doyle Black Sr., JoAnn Black and Virgie Black.
She is survived by her loving parents, Amanda and Doyle Black Jr., and Ira Fultz; her cherished brother, Doyle Black III; her grandparents, Cindy “Me-Maw” Quinn, Charlotte Torres, and Eugene Fultz; as well as a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless dear friends who will forever hold her memory in their hearts.
Katie’s light will never fade, and her legacy of love, inspiration, and joy will live on in those who were blessed to know her.
