Joan was born May 26th, 1944, in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Oscar C. and Janie L. West Swanner. She graduated from St. Benedicts on May 1962. She then attended Oklahoma School of Banking and Business, receiving her certification in 1963. Joan married Donald May October 1963 and eventually welcomed three beautiful children. She worked at Boeing in Corinth, Texas from which she retired in 2002. After retirement she moved back home to Oklahoma from Texas to spend more time with her mom and family.
Joan loved reading, cooking, playing games, and planning get togethers with her family and friends. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandkids, whom she adored. Joan was a member of St. Benedicts Parish.
Joan is survived by her daughter Mary May, son Douglas May and wife Nickie, and son Donald May Jr.and wife Terri; two sisters: Shirley Brannock and husband Tom, and Hazel Chapman; one brother Darrell Swanner and wife Donna; 12 grandchildren: Tiffany, Amber, Ashly, Lacey, Tarrah, Kadelyn, Samantha, Nathan, Cody, Amelia, Jurnie, and Zepplin; numerous great grandchildren; four nieces: Kay Ford, Teresa Ferber, Shelley Gloden, and Marci Nay; one nephew Ted Chapman; two aunts; several beloved great nieces and nephews; and many, many loved and cherished cousins and friends.
Arrangements are under the care of Resthaven Funeral Home in Shawnee, Oklahoma. A public viewing will be held Friday, May 5th, 2023 at Resthaven from 4-8. A funeral service will be held at Resthaven on Saturday, May 6th, 2023 at 10AM with burial to follow.
